Silver is a precious metal valued both in ancient civilizations and in modern times. In fact, silver was used as currency before paper money came along. Even now precious metals are used to store wealth as insurance against currency devaluation.

    What makes silver so precious?

It could be the relative rarity of silver compared to common metals like iron and copper. It could also be its beauty. Besides currency, silver is also worn as jewelry in throughout known human history.

Silver gleams in the light, reflecting cool light on the wearer. It has been likened in literature and music to moonlight. Silver jewelry enhances the beauty of its wearer, especially when the one wearing it has cool skin tones, which would account for most people.

Even though silver has been worn since the ancient times, silver jewelry is considered modern. Actually the most precious metal used in jewelry making is not gold but platinum, which incidentally looks a lot like silver, so silver is not only used set precious stones in fine jewelry, it is also in high-end costume jewelry, typically with cubic zirconia to mimic precious gems.

Not everyone looks amazing in silver. If you look great in black and blue clothing, silver would make you look stunning. If black or blue clothing make you look sickly, then chances are you have warm skin tones and should wear gold instead.

Basically, silver is a cool color that goes with blues, pale, bluish pinks, fuschia, purples, true red, red with blue undertones, a bluish green and any color that has blue undertones and most certainly bluish black. Maybe that is why the gothic look which focuses on the color black, is usually accessorized with silver jewelry.

Silver can look delicate, even fairy-like if you pair it with pastels that have blue undertones.

Basically, people with porcelain white skin, olive skin and really black skin or skin with bluish undertones look absolutely fabulous in silver as silver somehow, brings out their skin tone in the most flattering way possible.

Silver jewelry, like silver hoops can be worn with everything from jeans to an evening gown to a bikini at the beach. Silver belly rings are in vogue too, worn by celebs and regular folks alike. Silver bracelets can be worn for casual gatherings, for clubbing, or as a signature piece you might wear all the time. These are just the basic silver jewelry any girl should own.

If you look great in silver, then don't just stop at jewelry alone, go for the works. Metallic shoes, bags, jackets, skirts and dresses would bring out your beauty. Even a touch of silver in your makeup will up the glamour factor several times over.

Mirror mirror on the wall. What's the cheapest of them all? silver?
