That said, emerald is often enhanced by filling the the flaws in it with a green colored oil. A common practice in the industry, meant to improve the clarity and color of emeralds. That is why emeralds should not by cleaned with ultra sonic cleaners, or with hot soapy water, as that would remove the oil, making the emerald look less appealing.
