Citrine is a yellow or orange quartz. It looks a lot like the more expensive topaz and has at times been sold by crooked dealers as topaz.
Some citrine stones could have started off as the purple quartz, amethyst, but were transformed into citrine underground, naturally, by the heat nearby.
Both Topaz and Citrine are the birthstones for November.
